Circular Walks along the Sandstone Trail
As well as the ever-popular long distance linear route along the Sandstone Trail — from north to south between Frodsham and Whitchurch — there are a wealth of less well-known but equally unmissable circular walks and strolls exploring the surrounding countryside.
The Sandstone Trail runs through lovely Cheshire and north Shropshire countryside and it seems a shame to stick only to the main, linear path.
These varied circular Cheshire walks link naturally to the main Trail, and are clearly waymarked and maintained by the Sandstone Trail ranger. Not surprisingly, they are increasingly popular.
Some of the circular routes explore favourite areas such as Delamere Forest or the Bickerton Hills in more depth; some visit unexpected places along the way such as the earthen ramparts of Eddisbury hillfort or ancient Utkinton Hall; some take you to special places such as bluebell-dense Bodnick Wood or the picturesque and unhurried Norman market town of Malpas.
